1. Back Ground
1.1 Brief Back ground about Cultural
Association Of Tigrai
Cultural Association of Tigrai is Located in Mekelle zone keble 13, It is a non governmental, non profit making and non political organization founded in Nov. 1988 E.C.
The Cultural Association of Tigrai is headed by a board of directors composed of higher officials and representatives of different religious leaders, Association like women’s Association, youth Association etc---
The day to day activity of the organization is carried by the management committee. The Cultural Association is committed to the detail study, preservation, development, and advocacy of the material as well as non-material cultural values of the people of Tigrai. Especially the Association pays due Emphasis to language literature, art, music, theater, architecture, history, cultural heritages, sport and environmental protection. Further more, the Cultural Association of Tigrai exerts considerable effort in publishing different books in Tigrigna, Kunama, Saho and Geez.
So far among the major achievements of the Association is the establishment of the Art School in Mekelle. Apart from this, the Association promotes culture related interests such as Language, Literature, Developmental theater, Anti-Aids events, Festivals---. It has further taken the initial steps for the foundation of language academy, Documentation and archives center and an art museum. The organization has also been engaged in conducting different Seminars, Work shops, and Symposiums on cultural related issues.
2. Objectives
The general objectives of this project proposal is to strengthening the Cultural Association of Tigray through promoting Art, and local language publication books in Tigrigna, Kunama, Saho, Geez and printing different leaflets, magazine, News paper, photographs of historical sites, posters---etc.
3. Problems to be Addressed
- No text books for teaching the language kunamigna, Sohogna.
- Low level of books written in Tigrigna language.
- Teaching materials for teachers under each of different organizations and effectively use teaching aids and materials.
- Lack of printing machine to make available books to Elementary schools, High schools, and Universities.
4. Project Activities
- Purchasing of printing machines for publishing books.
- Publishing different books, fliers, magazine in the local language of Tigrigna, Saho, Kunnama and Geez.
- Encourage writers to write more
